Flying South for the Winter

My five year old nephew noticed the birds flying in formation through the Wisconsin sky and asked his mother about it.  She explained to him about migration and that the birds were going south for the cold winter months.  She shared with me that she hadn't realized he felt so attached to the birds so was a bit surprised when he became very upset that the birds were leaving.  His older sister told him that the birds were flying to Florida and that's where Aunt Patti is.  He immediately felt better and was A-OK with it.

We were quick to assure him that we have bird feeders in the back yard and are ready for his birds when they arrive.

Funny isn't it how we feel better about losing something, if we know that someone is waiting to care for them when they arrive?

I guess death must be like that for those believing in a greater being.  The ones left behind are sad at the loss but comforted knowing their loved one will be not only welcomed with open arms, but loved and cared for after arrival.

  1. Love your story! Out of the mouth of babes... and we find in a simple way to be reminded of the basics of life. I am going to have to send you some bird food, cuz there are a lot of birds heading your way!!
